Abstract

1480094 Alkyl - substituted cyclopentabenzopyrans L S HARRIS H G PARS J C SHEEHAN and R K RAZDAN [trading as SHARPS ASSOCIATES] 27 Aug 1974 [29 Aug 1973] 37498/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds having the general formulae wherein R is C 1 to C 6 alkyl, R 1 is hydrogen, or C 1 to C 6 alkyl, R 2 is C 1 to C 6 alkyl, and R 3 is C 1 to C 20 alkyl, phenyl-C 1 to C 6 alkyl or cycloalkyl-C 1 to C 6 alkyl. They may be prepared by reacting a compound of formula with a compound of formula to produce a compound of Formula (IV) which may be reacted with a C 1 to C 6 alkyl magnesium halide to produce a compound of formula which is then reacted with acid to produce a compound of Formula (I). The compounds of the invention exhibit antihypertensive, antidepressant, analgesic, anticonvulsant, tranquillizing and/or antianxiety activity and may be administered alone or in admixture with conventional carriers. British patent Specifications 1,438,833 and 1,459,564 are referred to.
