1479754 Cleaning coke oven doors GEWERKSCHAFT SCHALKER EISENHUTTE 21 June 1974 [23 June 1973] 27568/74 Heading F2N A cleaning device for coke oven doors and/or frames comprises a cleaning unit having a frame including at least one pair of vertically extending travel rails, and a displaceable cleaning carriage guided by the travel rails and carrying rotationally drivable cleaning brushes, at least some of the brushes being adjustable in position with respect one another to accommodate doors and/or frames of differing dimensions, and the inclination of the axes of rotation of the brushes with respect to the door and/or door frame to be cleaned being variable. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a device 11 for cleaning the door frame 9 of an oven comprises a carriage 42 running on vertical channel section rails 40, 41. The brushes 15a, 15b are mounted on the carriage on support bars 46, 47 which are adjustable laterally of the carriage against the force of springs 48, 49 by means of cylinder and piston devices 50, 51. The carriage itself is displaceable in a vertical direction by means of a further cylinder and piston device 52. The brushes are mounted so that brushes 15a have their axes of rotation parallel to the plane of the frame 9 and the axes of brushes 15b are perpendicular to the plane of the frame. The brushes are rotated by electric motors 21 by means of a chain and sprocket arrangement. Also provided in the cleaning unit 11 are transport and collection devices 31, 32 for removing the dirt from the brushes. These devices include a revolving collecting and conveying belt 33, 34, a stripping device 35, 36 and a container 37, 38 for the dirt. The cleaning unit 12 shown in Figs. 1 and 5 is for cleaning doors 10 and comprises brushes 16a and 16b mounted on carriages 58, 59. As shown in Fig. 5, the carriages run on channel section rails 54, 55, 56 and 57 which form part of a frame 53. The height and width of the frame are variable, by means of cylinder and piston arrangements 65, to accommodate doors of differing dimensions. The carriages are movable on the frame by means of cylinder and piston arrangements 62, 63.
