Abstract

1479603 Monitoring position KODAK Ltd 26 July 1974 [26 July 1973] 35659/73 Heading G1A [Also in Division B8] A method of monitoring the position of the edge of a sheet or web, e.g. a photographic film 16 on a splice table, comprises directing light along a path 2t which is interruptible by the film, and receiving light reflected off the film down one or both or neither of a pair of paths 2r located on each side of the path 2t, according to whether the edge of the film is located correctly or to one side or the other of a predetermined required position. The paths 2r, 2t comprise bundles of light fibres, the path 2t being illuminated at one end through an infrared filter 32, and the paths 2r terminating in photo-cells 12a, 12b connected in a bridge circuit, see Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) for a display. The fibres 2r, 2t, may be intermingled, see Fig. 3 (not shown).
