Abstract

1479434 Preheating furnace charges FULLER CO 17 June 1974 [11 July 1973] 26709/74 Heading F4B In a heat exchange apparatus between a hot gas entering at 30 and exiting at 31 and particulate solids passing downwardly to exit at 3, the solids pass through an inlet 10 to form a natural slope 22 adjacent a downwardly and outwardly sloping wall 12 before being pushed along the floor 8 of the apparatus toward the exit 3 by means 45, the length of the path of a part of the gas through the. solids being variable. As shown in Fig. 2 the length of the path is varied by valve flaps 51 being pivoted under the action of pistons and cylinders 53 from the position shown in which the flaps coincide with the slope 22 to positions away from the slope, whereby the gas takes the easiest flow path and exits from the solids below point 41. The hot gas has issued from, and the solids enter, a rotary kiln.
