Abstract

1479284 Bearings SKF (UK) Ltd 25 July 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 38684/73 Heading F2A A bearing assembly comprises a bearing unit 15 consisting of an outer ring 19, an inner ring 25, and a plurality of rolling elements 26 disposed between raceways on the two rings, a housing formed in two parts 17, 18 disposed on opposite sides of the outer ring, and securing means which clamp said outer ring between the two housing parts and co-operate with the outer periphery of the ring to locate the unit radially in said housing; each part 17, 18 comprises a side plate having a flat annular portions 35, 40 in contact with the adjacent side of the outer ring and projecting radially outwards beyond the psriphery of the outer ring. The securing means comprise three or more bolts or rivets extending through aligned apertures in the two parts 17,18 The bearing unit supports one end of an idler roller 10 in a roller conveyer. The two lowermost bolts or rivets support the assembly in a cut out out in the side frame 13 of the conveyer. A cotter pin can be inserted through aligned apertures 51, 52 in lugs in the parts 17, 18 and in the frame 13 in order to secure the assembly. A hole in the centre of the part 17 is sealed with a rubber plug 38. An axially directed flange 42 on the part 18 forms in conjunction with a member 46 a labyrinth seal. Elastomeric seals 30 are also provided. In an alternative embodiment, the cut out in the frame 13 is so profiled that radial loads are transmitted directly from the periphery of the outer ring 19.
