Abstract

1477930 Printing from developed electrostatic images CANON K K 19 July 1974 [23 July 1973] 32128/74 In a method of transferring a toner image e.g. a developed electrostatic image from an image carrier, e.g. a photoconductive drum, to a transfer medium, e.g. a copy sheet, uniform charges of the same polarity are applied to the image carrier and the transfer medium prior to transfer. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, negatively-charged toner forms a pattern on insulating layer 1c of photoconductive drum 10, which receives an overall negative charge from corona-discharge device 16. The transfer paper P receives an overall negative charge from corona-discharge device 22, and induces a positive charge on conductive roller 19 preferably the charge on paper P is at a lower potential than that on drum 10, and is controllable through grid 22. This potential difference will cause toner to transfer across to paper P and may be assisted by application of transfer voltage to roller 19. The separation of paper P from roller 19 is effected by a mechanical pawl (23), Fig. 3 (not shown) or by coronadischarge device 24 which carries A.C. or a voltage of opposite polarity to the attraction force.
