Abstract

1477743 Labelling DYMO INDUSTRIES Inc 2 Sept 1974 [7 Sept 1973] 38265/74 Heading B8F A device for printing and dispensing labels 1 of a label strip 2 comprises a hand lever 13 coupled through resilient means 20 to a second lever 15 carrying a printing mechanism 6, the arrangement being such that when the hand lever 13 is pivoted inwardly against the bias of a spring 14, the printing mechanism 6 is pivoted by the resilient means 20 to print a label 1 on a platen 5 only when the force stored in the resilient means 20 exceeds the force of a means 17 resisting the movement of the second lever 15 Abutment surfaces 21, 22 of the levers 13, 15, which are pivotable about the same axis 12, are urged against one another in a compression spring 20 When the hand lever 13 is pivoted inwardly, the spring 20 is further compressed and the movement of the printing mechanism 6 is initially prevented by an inking pad 16 urged into engagement therewith by a spring 17. When the resistance of the spring 17 has been overcome, the inking pad 16 is pivoted out of the path of the printing mechanism 6, which is pivoted by the spring 20 against a label 1 on the platen 5. The label 1 is rolled on to an article to be labelled by a roller 9. During the inward or outward pivoting of the hand lever 13, the label strip is advanced by one label length by for example, a roller 4 moved by the lever 15. The compression spring 20 may be replaced by a tension spring below the pivot axis 12.
