Abstract

1477452 Terrain avoidance displays; cathoderay tube displays GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 14 April 1969 19086/69 Headings H4D and H4T In a terrain-following aircraft, the image of the desired flight path, in perspective, is projected on to a transparent screen through which the pilot views terrain. The bands 11, 12 define the lateral limits of the flight path and show the variations of the flight path altitude with range so as to present a perspective view of the path to the pilot. The points 17, 18 represent the end of the path, five miles along the desired path. The forward looking radar 25 scans the terrain and applies the resulting signals to the glass delay-line memory 24, from which the flight path data is derived. The terrain profile data, stored in 24, is applied to the trajectory generator 23, in analogue form, and fed into the "head-up" CRT projector 21. The projector is stabilized by the gyro, 27.
