Abstract
1477390 Blowing lances; burners BERRY METAL CO 11 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 39605/74 Headings F4B and F4T In a blowing lance comprising a central fuel pipe surrounded in turn by an insulating pipe, an oxygen supply tube, and flow and return coolant pipes, the nozzle comprises at least one passage extending from the end of the oxygen supply pipe through a coolant chamber, and a fuel supply nozzle leading from the fuel supply pipe and terminating within the passage. A nozzle head member welded to the outer wall 57<SP>1</SP> of the lance forms an end closure 61 and side walls 62 of a coolant chamber, and three convergent divergent oxygen outlet nozzles 70. An extension 65 of the outer wall of the coolant supply passage guides the coolant within the head, and the oxygen passage is closed by a member 69 welded to the extension 24<SP>1</SP> of the oxygen supply tube. The fuel supply pipe 13 and insulating space 15 are closed by member 67, 68, to which are welded fuel nozzles 75, which are supported within the oxygen nozzles 70 by spacers 78, 79. A sliding joint is provided between coolant supply tube 39<SP>1</SP> and its lower extension 64, 65 to allow for thermal expansion. The lance is connected to the coolant, oxygen and fuel supplies through a head similar to that described and claimed in Specification 1,477,389.
