1476325 Seaming UNITED GLASS Ltd 1 April 1975 [7 Jan 1974] 00633/74 Heading B5K [Also in Divisions B8 and H5] Induction heating to seal a membrane to a container (the membrane or container or both being metallic) is applied as in Specification 1,319,679 except that the magnetic flux intensifier is located so that the surfaces to be joined lie between the induction coil and the intensifier. The container K is located beneath the induction coil (not shown) and the intensifier M comprising a split metal ring is below the rim of the container and separated by a layer J of electrically insulating material. The containers may be carried on a continuously driven conveyer through a heat application station, a continuously driven endless band being adapted to press the membrane into contact with the container rim. The conveyer may have a plurality of carriers each supporting a container and each formed as a flux density intensifier. The carriers may be adjustable in size. The intensifier need not necessarily be immediately below the rim of the container but may be outside, the container being supported by insulating material. The preferred form of the intensifier is a split metal ring of high conductivity metal such as copper or aluminium but a material such as ferrite may be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Speciflcation 1,319,679.
