The invention also relates to a package, or box, 14 comprising a base and four plane walls, the walls having edges at their ends opposite the base which define a rectangular opening which is perpendicular to the respective walls, and an end portion 20 including a fixed part 23 which closes a substantial part of the opening, and a flap part 21, 22 which is hinged on the said fixed part and which, when in the closed position, closes the remaining part of the opening the flap part of the end portion having a skirt part perpendicular thereto and secured to the free edges of the flap wherein at least the end portion of the package, or box, is made from a blank in which the part of the blank forming the flap part is connected only to the part of the blank forming the fixed part. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 a foil-wrapped package 10 of twenty cigarettes is enclosed in a rectangular wrapper formed from a glued-together, blank 11, Fig. 2, of bond paper, or cartonboard, the wrapper having glued within its rectangular open end an end member 20. The latter, made of cartonboard, has a hinged lid 21 and is held on to an end of the cigarette 10 whilst the wrapper is folded, and glued, around the parts 10, the lid being released from the closed position by severing the wrapper around the free edge portions 22 of the lid. A reinforcing, U-shaped strip of cartonboard may be placed around the base and narrower sides of the pack 10, and the lid 21, 22 may be hinged to its open position before the application of the wrapper so that the lid is closable over the outside of the wrapper. In a modification the carton, with an integral lid, is formed by bending a blank, Fig. 7, sequentially along respective dotted lines A-R and glueing, as necessary, the full lines representing cuts in the blank. The wrapper blanks may be made, and an end portion 20 may be moulded from, synthetic plastics material.
