Abstract
1474878 Continuous casting KAWASAKI STEEL CORP 5 March 1975 [5 March 1974] 9235/75 Heading B3F Two pouring pipes 2, e.g. from a tundish, extending into a rectangular mould 1 are spaced apart at a distance 20-60% of the mould width and each has two downwardly-directed outlets 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP>, the outlets 31 facing the nearer narrow sides 10 of the mould being at an angle 15, between 10 and 40 degrees to the horizontal and those 3<SP>11</SP> facing the further narrow sides 10 being at an angle 14 not exceeding 40 degrees to the horizontal. The two angles 14, 15 may be equal for wide slabs. A slag layer 9 covers the melt bath 4. The flow of metal at the mould narrow sides 10 is said to obviate crusting of flux and to reduce inclusions.
