Abstract

1474211 Distributing material in furnace hearth NICHOLS ENG & RESEARCH CORP 3 Sept 1974 [18 July 1974] 38556/74 Heading F4B Apparatus for distributing material over the hearth of a furnace comprises a rotatable centre shaft, at least one rabble arm secured to and rotating with the shaft, and separate means for moving the material radially over the hearth and for moving the material circumferentially round the hearth. The means for moving the material radially comprises blades 36 secured on the rabble arms 32 at an angle to the axis of the blades, while the separate means for distributing the material circumferentially may comprise blades 118 on a wire connected between blades on adjacent rabble arms, Fig. 10, chains connected between the outer blade on one rabble arm and the shaft, or between a point part way along a rabble arm and the outer end of an adjacent rabble arm (Figs. 4, 5, 7 and 8), chains 106 secured at one end only to blades 36 in the rabble arms 32, Fig. 9, scrapers 122 secured to the bottom leading edges of the rabble blades, Fig. 11, or alternate rabble arms may have blades arranged parallel to the axis of the rabble arms, while the other rabble arms have blades inclined to the arm axis. The arrangements may be used in multiple hearth furnaces, and the material may be moved over the hearth to central or peripheral drop-holes. Various applications of the invention are described in Specification 1,474,212.
