Abstract

1474193 Milking machines E G FELDCAMP 24 July 1975 [24 April 1974] 17856/74 Heading B3K A milling machine comprises a base having a supporting structure 19 for mounting a milling head 31 thereon for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis 23 means for securing the milling head in one of a plurality of angular positions about the horizontal axis 23 the milling head carrying a milling cutter 34, the axis of rotattion of which intersects the pivot axis at the cutting region of the milling cutter 34. In the embodiment described the milling head 31 is mounted on a front plate 20 which is pivotally secured to a back plate 18 mounted on the structure 19, the back plate 18 has an extended portion on which is mounted a dial gauge and feeler 27, 28. A pair of rotary work tables 11 and 12 mounted on the machine slide 10 for supporting a template and workpiece 16 and 17 respectively, so that movement of the template 16 produces corresponding movement of the workpiece 17. The worktables are also rotatable and are coupled together by way of a chain 15 so as to produce simultaneous rotary motion between the template and workpiece. When it is required to adjust the angle of inclination of the milling cutter 34 the bolts 22 are released and the milling head 31 pivoted about axis 23 through the cutter 34 by relative movement of the parts 18 and 20. Since the axis of pivoting 23 lies through the cutting region of the milling cutter the set relationship between the gauge feeder 28 and the milling cutter remain unaltered thus permitting the milling of angular configurations on the workpiece without changing the set relationship between the feeler and the milling cutter. The means for pivoting the front plate relative to the back is provided by a pivot pin 24, an arcuate rack 25 or by the arcuate slots 21.
