Abstract
1473955 Simultaneous polymerization and reaction STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 6 Nov 1974 [12 Nov 1973] 47943/74 Heading C3P A textile is treated with a mixture of: (a) a free-radical polymerizable monomer containing a functional group that will undergo an acid-catalysed reaction with co-reactant (b), (b) a material having a reactive methylol, hydroxy, alkoxy or amino group, (c) a freeradical catalyst and an acid catalyst or a catalyst combining both characteristics, and the assembly is heated to cause polymerization and condensation. Suitable materials include (a) N- methylol acrylamide and methylolated diacetone acrylamide, (b) stearamide, N-methylol stearamide, dimethyloldihydroxyethylene urea, methylolated and unmethylolated dimethyl amidoethyl phosphonate, tris-(hydroxymethyl) phosphine oxide and its oligomer, and N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>11</SP>- trimethyl phosphoric triamide, and (c) persulphates and mixtures of persulphates with metal salts. The reaction can be in several stages and can be activated by SO 2 .
