Abstract
1473941 Digital transmission SIEMENS AG 16 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 12271/74 Heading H4M In a transmission system in which digital data is fed over some phantom circuits of a multi core cable carrying analogue signals over respective line pairs, the digital data is fed to the line via a frequency changing modulator 5 and frequency filter 7, and after passing through repeaters containing amplifiers 3 or regenerators 2 the digital signals are recovered by demodulation in demodulator 10 and regeneration at 4. If the intermediate repeaters include regenerators the digital signals are recovered by demodulator 9 before regeneration at 2 and frequency changed by modulator 6 and filter 8 for onward transmission. The carrier signals for the modulators are derived by multiplication and/or division of the bit rate of the digital signals and the frequency conversion is preferably by half the bit rate frequency.
