Abstract

1473737 Pneumatic actuators ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 9 Aug 1974 [13 Aug 1973] 35144/74 Heading F1D [Also in Division F2] A pneumatic cylinder has tandem pistons 7, 8 acting on a rod 34, the piston 7 having two seals 10, 10' defining a chamber 11 connected to the atmosphere via a radial passage 12 in the piston and an annular passage 13 between two coaxial tubular members 14, 15 slidably arranged in an axially extending air inlet 17 for a working chamber 25 for the piston 8, the members being fixed to the piston 7. A dual control valve 19 when actuated supplies air to inlets 17, 23 for the pistons 7, 8, the pressure for piston 7 being greater than that for piston 8. If either of the supplies fails, the piston 8 will work alone, or the piston 7 will mechanically push the piston 8. If either of the seals 10, 10' leaks, the air-pressure for either piston which acts on the seal will pass to atmosphere via the passage 13, a gap 31 between the members 14, 15 and a passage 33. Thus, the air-pressure for actuating the other piston is not affected. The cylinder can be used to mechanically boost a brake actuating cylinder 4.
