Abstract

1473612 Pneumatic false twisting K GOTZFRIED 20 May 1975 [22 May 1974] 21399/75 Heading DID Staple fibres are pneumatically false twisted by an air stream with components in the direction of thread movement and in a direction spirally around the thread, these being generated in a swirl zone comprising a narrow swirl channel 9 which widens conically at an acute angle, this widening can also occur at a stepped fashion. The apparatus to perform this method also has a concave suction recess or annulus 7 located upstream and/or downstream of the swirl channel 9. As shown in Fig. 1 staple fibres 1 are combined with continuous filament 2 to provide a core yarn the staple fibre ends being lifted from the yarn while the continuous filament is false twisted so that as the twist stabilizes a yarn with good tear resistance is produced. More than one swirl channel may be provided, successive channels having opposite directions of swirl. Between the channels suction recesses are provided to aid the reversal of twist direction. As shown in Fig. 1 a twist stop 8 is provided and the swirl air flow in channels 9 is produced by tangential air ducts 9a.
