Abstract

1472960 Gas chromatography MAGYAR ASVANYOLAJ ES FOLDGAZ KISERLETI INTEZET 30 Sept 1974 42343/74 Heading B1H A continuous gas chromatography apparatus comprises a movable filament or belt which passes through one or more gas absorption zones and one or more gas desorption zones, that part of the apparatus which joins the absorption zone or zones comprising at least one contriction having substantially the same cross-sectional shape as the cross-section of the filament or belt. As shown, samples carried by a carrier gas 12 flowing through absorption zone 5 are absorbed on the wetted surface of endless filament 14 and conveyed thereon to desorption zone 13 where they are removed by a further carrier gas 16. Constrictions 17, 18 may be from 1 to 1000 microns greater than the width of the filament. The zones 5 and 13 may be heated or cooled.
