Abstract

1472686 Drying drum H W GESCHKA and W OBERHOFF 20 March 1975 [20 March 1974] 11757/75 Heading F4G [Also in Division D1] A washing and drying machine comprises a fixed jacket 2 surrounding a perforated drum 1 rotatable about a horizontal axis, a condenser for dehumidifying air circulating in the drum, and two blowers 3, 4 mounted in the top of jacket 2 and so arranged that air currents produced by them intersect within the drum. Walls 5, 6 define passages 7, 8 for return flow of air to the blowers, and water jets 21, 22 provide a film of water on the jacket 2 to condense vapour in the air, water being pumped out at 23 under the control of a liquid level-responsive switch 24. Air heaters 11, 12 are thermostatically controlled at 25.
