Abstract

1471786 Welding by pressure COMBUSTION ENG Inc 6 Sept 1974 [7 Sept 1973] 39044/74 Heading B3R [Also in Divisions B8 and F4] A welding arrangement 64 mounted on a platform 56 of a bonding apparatus comprises three welding guns 124 which are sequentially movable into contact with an overlying band portion or an underlying tab 36 by piston and cylinder devices 126, 128. The electrodes 132, 136 of two guns are welding electrodes arranged to contact the overlying band portion and the electrode 134 of the other gun 124 is a dummy electrode arranged to contact an exposed corner portion of the tab 36. In operation, the electrodes 136 and 134 co-operate to form a first spot weld (138), Fig. 7 (not shown), and then the electrodes 132 and 134 co-operate to form a second spot weld (138). The platform 56 is mounted for vertical and lateral adjustment.
