Abstract

1471213 Air conditioning unit CARRIER CORP 10 April 1974 [2 May 1973] 15951/74 Heading F4V An air conditioning unit has, on one side of a partition 9, Fig. 1, an evaporator 5 and a fan 7 for cooling air in a room and has, on the other side of the partition, a condenser 1 and a fan 3 for cooling the refrigerant used in the evaporator In the partition 9 are vent and exhaust ports 15 and 13 through which air can pass respectively to and from the room. The ports are closed by doors. In operation, both the exhaust port door 17, Fig. 2, and the vent port door 43 are closed or either door (but not both) is open. Both doors pivot about an axis X-X. Door 17 closes against one side of the partition and door 43 closes against the other side. Fig. 4 is a top elevation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 2. It shows the door 43 in the open position and also shows, in broken lines, the door 17 in the open position. Both doors are normally biased to the closed position by springs acting on tab portions of the doors. Spring 21 acts on tab 19 of door 17 and spring 57 acts on tab 49 of door 43. Opening of the doors is by means of a manually operated lever 67, Figs. 2 and 4, rotatable shaft 73, arm 69 and cylindrical portion 75. Clockwise movement of lever 67 causes the portion 75 to press against tab 49 to open door 43. Counterclockwise movement of lever 67 causes the portion 75 to press against the tab 25 to open door 17. When a door 17 or 43 is fully open, the action of its spring 21 or 57 is to hold the door open against unintentional closure. This is because of the shape of the tabs 25 and 49. The ports are covered by filters 41 and 65, Fig. 2, At the edge of exhaust port 13 there is a gasket 39 and at the edge of vent door 43 there is a gasket 63.
