Abstract
1470742 Speed governor CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 27 June 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 27258/75 Heading G3B An internal combustion engine has a governor in which an annular collar 31 is slidable on a control member 11, there being springs 33, 58 urging the control member and collar in a fuel increasing direction against the action of flyweights 26, there being also means 22, 23 for limiting movement of the control member to establish a maximum fuel delivery position of the control member, and levers 52 pivoting about fulcrums 51 in the limiting means and pivotally attached to the collar at 54 to move the control member in a direction to decrease fuel if the engine speed subsequently decreases on overload. The governed speed may be selected by varying the load on spring 33 as set by lever 19 acting on the spring retainer 17. The housing 38 for spring 58 has halves 42 held together by rings 43. Normal speed fall with increasing load allows spring 33 to move the fuel control rod 11 to the right via the collar 31, levers 52, end-walls 39 of the housing 42 and spring 58 which transmits motion to flange 57. Fall in speed below normal full load causes the levers to pivot about edges 51 of the end-walls to move the flange 57 on the control rod to the left against spring 58 thus reducing fuel supply.
