Abstract

1470606 Venting fuel tanks BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG 23 July 1974 [26 July 1973] 32559/74 Headings B8T and B8V [Also in Division G3] A motor vehicle fuel tank is connected to a device 7 for throttling escape of air from the air-filled compensating space above the fillerpipe level of the tank. The device comprises a housing 8, 9, Fig. 2, e.g. of injection moulded plastics parts, containing concentric circular walls 12 each provided with a throttling orifice 13 angularly staggered relative to adjacent orifices. It is connected in a vent line externally of the tank to facilitate inspection and renewal. A carbon filter (5), Fig. 1 (not shown), is also connected in the vent line. The orifices 13 are located near the floor 16 of the housing to permit drainage of any fuel that may enter the device. The device also permits the entry of air into the tank as fuel is withdrawn therefrom. Means 18 permit attachment of the device to the motor vehicle body.
