Abstract

1469945 Powder spray booths NORDSON CORP 25 April 1974 [26 April 1973] 18211/74 Heading B2L To limit powder settling in a spray booth with at least one opening in the side for an electrostatic or other powder spray gun the base is in the form of a number of troughs 40, 41 with sloping walls 47, 48 and associated removable baffles 52, 57 also with sloping walls and having lower edges 63, 64 which define narrow passages, to provide a high air flow velocity. At the bottom of each trough the walls are curved smoothly upwards to provide two channels between which is an opening 70 connected by a respective conduit 17 to a manifold 18. The conduits 17 enter the manifold tangentially to produce air swirl therein to entrain powder. In use (Fig. 7) an exhaust fan 21 draws air from the booth with entrained powder to a separator 19 with a filter bag from which powder drops to a fluidised bed 25 from which entrained powder is pumped through a pipe 28 a sieve 27 to a second fluidised bed 23 from which a pump 24 supplies the spray guns 11, 12 where the powder is electrostatically charged. The relative air flows between the different troughs is adjusted by interchangeable plates 90 with different sized apertures 91 to fit over the trough openings 70 and by adjusting screws 80 on which the baffles rest.
