Abstract

1469874 Branching filters THOMSON-CSF 29 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 28954/74 Heading H1W A branching filter for metric and obimetric wave frequencies comprises a hybrid circuit 5 (e.g. a 3 db quadrature coupler) having one pair of conjugate ports 3, 4 respectively providing input and output, the other pair 1, 2 of conjugate ports being connected respectively to a resonator 6 in parallel with a short-circuited line 8 and to a similar resonator 7 is parallel with an open-circuited line 9. The lines 8, are of length d/8 (or an odd multiple thereof) where d is the wavelength of the frequency F 0 to which the resonators are tuned. The Specification contains a theoretical discussion of the insertion loss of the circuit at the centre passband frequency F 0 . As shown in Fig. 2, the conjugate ports 1, 2 of hybrid circuit 50 are coupled to respective cylindrical resonators 60, 70 by co-axial lines 81, 91 which extend beyond the resonators to provide short-circuited and open-circuited line sections 80, 90 each of length d/8. In each case, coupling to the resonator is provided by connecting the inner conductors of line sections 80, 81 and 90, 91 to the periphery of a conductive disc 25 supported by insulating posts from the base of the resonator. The capacitance of the coupling is increased by a plate 26 conductively connected to the base of the resonator. Adjustment of the coupling is provided by a telescopic probe 23, 24 extending through the tuning piston 22.
