Abstract

1469620 Excavator teeth assemblies ESCO CORP 26 Aug 1975 [25 Nov 1974] 35144/75 Heading E1F An excavating tooth assembly comprises a socket member 15 and a tooth member 16. The socket member 15 has a socket of rectangular cross section, the socket being defined by rearwardly convergent inner surfaces of wall portions of the member, which has a socket-terminating, apertured rear wall. The top and bottom inner surfaces are configured to facilitate the transmission, via the tooth shank, of side loads on the toothed member to the socket member. The portion 34 of the bottom inner surface of the socket adjacent the front thereof is more steeply inclined than the rest of the surface. The tooth member has a tapered forward end 22, a shank 24 of complementary taper to the socket and a massive section between the forward end and the shank. This section has an abutment surface complementary to that of the forward front bottom surface 34 of the socket for transmitting when the tooth member is mounted in the socket member, downward loading on the tooth member to the socket via the abutting surfaces of which the bottom wall portion 30 of the socket member defining the surface 34 is thicker than the rest of the bottom wall portion. A bolt head-receiving aperture is provided in the rear of the shank for a bolt assembly for retaining the tooth member in the socket member. Projecting ears 42 are provided on the side wall portions above the bottom wall portion of the socket member for engaging in complementary recesses in the tooth member to provide for transmission of upward loading on the tooth member to the socket member. Preferably the upper and lower convergent surfaces of and the socket are mutually curved, the surfaces of the socket being inwardly concaved and, like the bearing surface 34 of the socket and the opposed surface on the massive tooth section, are parts of surfaces of revolution generated about a generally vertical axis disposed adjacent to but rearwardly of the rear end of the shank when the tooth member is mounted in the socket member. USA Specification 2919506 is referred to.
