Abstract

1469123 Gyrocompass TOKYO KEIKI KK 30 May 1974 [31 May 1973] 24097/74 Heading G1C A gyrocompass comprises a housing 1a, a gyro case within the housing 1a and accommodating a gyro rotor, and a first follow up arrangement for following up the gyro case and including a follow up ring 14, follow up shafts 3, 3' attached to the ring 14, a follow up servomotor 6 mounted on the housing 1a and gears 5, 8 coupling the servomotor 6 to one of the follow up shafts 3, 3'. A second follow up arrangement is mounted to the housing 1a and is responsive to the position of one of the follow up shafts 3, 3' for following up the first follow up arrangement. As described, the second arrangement comprises an electric pick-up 10, gears and a servomotor 13, the pick-up 10 detecting displacement between shaft 3 and gear 5. The signal resulting from the pick-up 10 is processed by an amplifier (12) Fig. 3 (not shown) and, if required, by a correction circuit (11) for speed and latitude errors before being applied to the servomotor 6. The gear 5, and hence compass card 16, is thereby rotated until a null signal from the pick-up 10 is achieved so as to indicate the true azimuth. The gear 5 is meshed with a gear 9 coupled to a signal generator 7 via a shaft 7a. Thus the output from the signal generator 7 is also indicative of the true azimuth and is supplied to repeaters (not shown).
