Abstract

1469096 Strippers; hold downs; bending; stamping CORNERCROFT ENG Ltd 11 March 1974 [17 March 1973] 12940/73 Headings B3W B3E and B3Q [Also in Division F2] A press tool such as a die set, Fig. 1 (not shown), includes a hold down (9) spaced from the tool holder (5) by a spring assembly 10 comprising a compression spring 16, guide means 11, first and second abutments 12 and 17 respectively fixed to, and movable along, the guide means said and stop 18, 19 secured to the guide means in a position to so restrict movement of the second abutment away from the first abutment that the spring is always in compression. The stop comprises a split collar 17 held by a cap 19 itself locked in position by means of a self-locking nut 21 on a screwthreaded portion 15 of the guide rod 11. A sleeve 22 which is a sliding fit over the cap 19 and engages the abutment 17 is threaded for engagement with a threaded aperture in, e.g. the punch block (5) of a die set and includes a locating flange 25 with recesses 26 in one of which a cheese-headed screw is engageable to lock the sleeve against rotation. A hexagonal hole 27 enables the sleeve to be rotated. The press tool may alternatively be for bending, stamping or drawing.
