Abstract
1468659 Spinning heat-treatment pots at specified temperatures F D WATERFALL 11 March 1974 [3 April 1973 30 June 1973] 15852/73 and 31266/73 Headings B3A B3J and B3V Cylindrical heat-treatment pots for molten salts are spun over a mandrel 2 from Ni-Cr alloy sheet 1, the process being controlled so that L#1À1 (D-d), or D>(d+ 0À9L), where: L is the length of the pot to be made; D is the diameter of the sheet blank; d is the diameter of the end of the mandrel. L may be The surface area before spinning preferably is at least 80% or 85% of the surface area of the pot. A laminated blank may be used giving the pot a steel inner surface and a Ni-Cr outer surface. Tables 1 and 2 (not shown) list suitable compositions. The blank is applied to the end of the mandrel by a plunger 7 and a spinning roller is pressed against the rotating blank at X to produce a dish, Fig. 2 (not shown). The dish is now heated to 800- 1000‹ C. as by oxypropane torches and the spinning operation completed, Fig. 3 (not shown), in a number of passes of the roller. Alternatively, the process may be performed in stages using initially one or more tapered mandrels.
