Abstract

1468199 Suction dredging T SHIMIZU 4 July 1974 29644/74 Heading E1F A suction dredging method involves disposing the end 14 of an intake pipe 15 at sufficient depth below the water level to enable hydrostatic pressure to force water and solids through the pipe into the interior of a shell 12 where the solids can settle out in a tank 16. After settling the water and solids are conveyed separately to tha surface (the water by means of pump 17). An apparatus disclosed for carrying out the method (Fig. 2 not shown) employs a bucket chain to lift the settled solids and carries at the inlet end of the pipe a cutter device which is driven by the flow of fluid sucked in.
