Abstract

1467811 Laminates ARDENTE Ltd 2 July 1974 [3 April 1973] 15975/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division G5] An acoustic panel 1, 2 for use in constructing a sound-proofed chamber comprises a first layer 7 of sound-reflecting material having a mean sound reduction index over the specific frequency range of 125 to 3200 Hz of not less than 25 dB, a second layer 9 of material having an average sound absorption coefficient of not less than 0À60 over the frequency range of 125 to 4000 Hz and a third layer 13, adjacent the second layer, having an average sound absorption coefficient of not less than 0À70 over the frequency range of 125 to 4000 Hz. The first layer may be of sheet metal, e.g. steel, the second layer of rock-wool and the third layer of plastics foam, e.g. an open-cell polyether foam, a layer 11 of hard material, e.g. hardboard or chipboard being preferably interposed between the two layers of sound-absorbent material. In the embodiment shown, 1 is the wall and 2 a door of a sound-proofed chamber, each composed of thin steel sheets 7 with flanges 8 to hold the other constituents which consist of a layer 9 of rock-wool with wooden or plastics edge strips 10, a hardboard sheet 11 and a high density polyether foam 13, each panel having permeable plastics or fabric facings. In an alternative embodiment, the hardboard sheet is replaced by a chipboard sheet mounted in foam rubber mounts and the strips are optionally mounted in resilient rubber seals.
