Abstract
1466947 Spray carburetters COLT INDUSTRIES OPERATING CORP 19 March 1974 [23 April 1973] 12162/74 Heading F1H [Also in Divisions B1 and G3] In a carburetter having a Venturi-defining vane 64 linked to the throttle valve 50, the pressure in a chamber 266 in the fuel flow-path is modified by bleeding air into the chamber. Air-flow through a passage 162 to the chamber 266 from the atmosphere is controlled by valves 184, 198, 212, and 260. The valves 184, 198, and 212 are operated by respective solenoids 176, 190 and 204 which are energized above a predetermined engine speed, in accordance with the amount of O 2 in the engine exhaust gases and at a predetermined intake manifold vacuum, which is greater than the vacuum at idling or when the engine ignition switch is opened, respectively, to increase the air bleed. The valve 260 is operated in response to changes in atmosphere pressure by an evacuated bellows 240 to increase the air bleed with falling atmospheric pressure. The linkage between the valve 50 and vane 64 includes a damper 86 and a coupling spring 120 which result in delay in Venturi opening with rapid opening of the valve 50. The vane 64 defines a rectangular Venturi.
