Abstract
1466895 Light guides SIEMENS AG 6 Aug 1974 [7 Aug 1973] 34501/74 Heading G2J A sheathed optical fibre comprises a plurality of cores of material having a high refractive index and low light absorptivity in a common sheath of a material having a low refractive index. The fibre is made by drawing a parallelepiped-shaped intermediate body built up of flat-sided core portions 8, 9 and sheath portions 10 ... 18 with polished mating faces between the two portions. The drawn fibre then possesses cores with crosssections of approximately semi-circular shape, from the body shown in Fig. 2, or polygonal Fig. 1 (not shown) or circular Fig. 3, (not shown).
