Abstract

1466680 Tubular heat exchanger DAIMLERBENZ AG 5 June 1974 [9 June 1973] 24955/74 Heading F4S In a tubular heat exchanger in which a hot gas (e.g. from a gas turbine) flows over tubes 14 connected at their ends to a header compartment 10 conveying a colder gas (e.g. compressed air) to and from the tubes, the joints 16 between the tubes and the header are protected from the direct flow of hot gas thereover by one or more metal plates 19 extending transversely to the direction 15 of gas flow and preferably across the total width of the tube assembly 11, the said plates 19 being secured, e.g. by welding, to the outer wall surface of the header compartment. As shown the tubes are arranged as banks of nested U-tubes (Fig. 1) and additional metal plates 17 may be disposed between adjacent tube banks.
