Abstract
1466365 Thermally sensitive switches EMI Ltd 24 May 1974 [24 May 1973] 24809/73 Heading H1K [Also in Division C1] A thermally sensitive switching element comprises a substrate coated with a layer including V 2 O 4Œx where x is 0À0-0À2 in the form of a polycrystalline powder of sub-micron particle size. The coating is typically applied in amounts of less than 0À1 mg./cm.<SP>2</SP>. The layer may be encapsulated in a binder, e.g. nitrocellulose, polyvinyl acetate or polymethylmethacrylate. The vanadium oxide may be applied in a lacquer or by electrophoretic methods or may be formed in situ by reaction of V 2 O 3 and V 2 O 5 . The element may be used as a fuse in a fire warning device.
