Abstract

1465522 Automatic control of speed GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 17 Jan 1974 [24 Jan 1973] 02140/74 Heading G3R In a speed control system for an induction motor, the frequency and voltage of the motor drive are controlled using a desired motor speed input applied to both frequency and voltage control paths, an actual motor speed signal being applied to only the voltage control path. The frequency is controlled according to desired motor speed input and a desired slip frequency signal, and the voltage controlled according to the actual and desired motor speeds . As shown, a frequency control signal Ws to the motor drive unit 40 is formed from the desired speed signal Wr and a desired slip frequency signal # O . The difference We between the desired speed signal and the actual motor speed signal, Wr, from a motor driven tachometer 20, passes through a PI controller 22 to form the voltage control signal E to unit 40. The desired speed signal Wr may be modified by the motor position error i.e. the difference between a desired position signal #r and actual rotor position signal #r from resolver 30. The unit 40 may be a frequency changer or a pulse width modulated inverter, and the system be analogue as Fig. 3 (not shown), digital or a hybrid system.
