Abstract
1465397 Shock absorbers GES FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT mbH 25 Feb 1974 [24 Feb 1973] 8462/74 Heading F2S A shock absorber for a vehicle comprises a bumper bar 10 supported against a spring 15 by a supporting tube 11 which is movable in a given shock direction 20 along the axis of the supporting tube, the spring 15 being located in a casing 13 for attachment to the vehicle, wherein the bumper bar 10 is connected in the shock direction 20 to the spring 15 via reciprocally movable parts of a resilient friction brake 14 which acts outwardly against the wall 22 of the casing 13, the movable parts comprising one or more pairs of metal parts 16, 17, and an elastomeric member 19 interconnecting them, wherein one metal part 16 is connected to the supporting tube 11 and the other metal part 17 impinges upon the spring 15 via an inner tube 24 which is telescopically movable in the supporting tube 11, the inner tube 24 being arranged so that the spring 15 becomes rigidly coupled via the inner tube 24 to the supporting tube 11 or to the bumper bar 10 after an initial displacement 25 of the supporting tube 11 relative to the inner tube 24. In an embodiment, the friction brake 14 comprises a number of segments 30, Fig. 2 (not shown), peripherally spaced between an inner tube 24 and an outer member 22, both of circular cross-section. Alternatively segments with flat inner and outer surfaces, e.g. 43, Fig. 3 (not shown) may be used. Blocks similar to those of Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) may be used, but with a single elastomeric members 19 to form an annular friction element. The shock absorber may be pre-loaded by pre-compressing the spring 15 against a stop formed by flanges 12 and 26.
