1465202 Packaging apparatus FOCKE & PFUHL 23 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 3212/74 Heading B8C In cigarette transfer apparatus in which a two compartment receptacle 22 is reciprocably driven between first and second positions at each of which one compartment 22 or 23 is charged with a group of cigarettes from one of two magazine outlets 15 and 16 by a respective one of two reciprocating ejectors 19 or 20 whilst a previously charged group in the other compartment is discharged into one of a plurality of pockets of a rotary turret 13 of a packaging machine by a common pusher 28 reciprocating at twice the rate of the ejectors, the group of cigarettes in the charged compartment is compressed during movement of the respective compartment from the charging position to the discharge position. As shown, the receptacle is formed by upper and lower relatively-displaceable recessed members 29 and 30 interconnected by parallel links 39 and 40, the arrangement being such that as each charged compartment moves from the charging to the discharging position, the members 29 and 30 are laterally relatively displaced to reduce both the width and height of the compartment and thus compress the cigarattes therein. The receptacle, ejectors and pusher are all driven from a common drive shaft 40 which also effects the relative squeezing displacement of the recepticle members 29 and 30 through cams 53 and 54, followers 54 and arms 36 and 38. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), squeezing of the cigarette group with the respective compartment is effected by spring-loaded plungers 56 co-operating with stops 59, which are reciprocally movable with the receptacle to effect displacement of the plungers during movement of the receptacle but which do not act on the plungers when the receptacle is at its first or second positions.
