Abstract

1464875 Multimeter SOLARTRON ELECTRONIC GROUP Ltd 1 May 1974 [11 May 1973] 22510/73 Heading G1U [Also in Divisions G3, G4 and G5] The housing of an electrical measuring instrument e.g. a multimeter or clock contains a liquid crystal display device 36, means 44, for admitting light into the interior of the housing and a reflector 48 for directing the light out through the device. In a digital multimeter light enters the housing through a frosted, reeded or opaline window 44 and is reflected to the device by a white member 48. Light may enter though an aperture and be directed by light guides. The arrangement avoids providing a light source powered by the battery 37. However for use in low ambient light conditions a lamp powered by a different battery and controlled by a photo-electric device may be provided. Alternatively a separate light source may be secured over the window 44. The multimeter includes an automatically controlled input alternator 22, anode selector circuit 24 and an analogue to digital converter 30 whose output is applied to an amplifier driving the display device. Elements 30, 34 may form an integrated circuit. The housing may alternatively contain a digital clock or counter/timer.
