1464771 APC systems; phase discriminators; analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue conversion LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS GmbH 13 March 1974 [13 March 1973] 11232/74 Headings H3A and H3H In a phase-locked loop, a coarse phase error signal is derived by strobing a counter 8 continuously fed with clock pulses from generator 5, holding the strobed value in stores 12, 13 and converting it to an analogue signal in D-to-A converter 4, and a fine error signal is superimposed on the output of the D-to-A converter by strobing a triangular wave, the polarity of the strobed fine signal being reversed if it is derived from a falling flank of the triangular wave. The peak amplitude of the triangular wave is equal to the minimum quantizing step size of converter 4.
