1464543 Phase-correcting microwave circuits MARCONI CO Ltd 5 March 1974 [5 May 1973] 21480/73 Heading H1W A phase-correcting circuit 15, Fig. 4, comprises a 3 db. coupler 18 having conjugate arms terminated by stubs 20, 22 providing susceptances. The stubs are in the form of waveguides having sections which can be relatively displaced in the H-plane to provide adjustable susceptance. The circuit 15 is inserted in a waveguide 16 and is intended to produce a more nearly linear relationship between phase and frequency in the waveguide. The waveguide 16 provides phase delay in a band-separating network 10<SP>1</SP> consisting of two 3 db. couples 12, 14 connected by two paths, one of which (16) provides a phase delay equal to an odd multiple of # for one frequency and to an even multiple of # for an adjacent frequency. The two frequencies f1,f2 are separated in known fashion by the network. The linearizing network 15 improves the distribution of frequencies f1, f2, f3, &c. in a multiplexer of the kind using a number of separating circuits (Fig. 4) to form a branching network (see Fig. 2, not shown). The preferred constructional form of the phase-correcting network is shown in Fig. 6. The susceptances are provided by waveguides stubs 46 and adjustment is made by moving the block 44 relative to the 3 db. coupler in the direction of the H-plane.
