Abstract

1464443 Treating exhaust gases MITSUI MINING & SMELTING CO Ltd 21 Jan 1974 [24 Jan 1973] 02767/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Exhaust gases are purified by the oxidation of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide by passage through a catalyst pack comprising a plurality of moulded elements of sheetlike or annular form with undulations on at least. one major surface, the elements having been made by impregnating a carrier with an aqueous solution of a compound of a platinum group metal and an organic trivalent phosphorus compound or a primary amine or an organic compound containing a nitrogen atom bonded to an adjacent atom by a multiple bond and optionally a polycarboxylic acid, drying the impregnated carrier, reducing the metal compound in the impregnated and dried carrier with hydrogen at an elevated temperature and then calcining. In the catalyst packs the plurality of elements are snugly fitted into a container a number of the packs being snugly fitted into a case to form the converter. A heat resistant net may be inserted between adjacent elements in the pack.
