Abstract

1463252 Dowels B NEMECEK and J M LIPMAN 3 March 1975 7265/75 Heading F2H. A one-piece dowel made of a high impact strength polymer such as nylon or polypropylene has raised, preferably cylindrical portions 3, 4, 5, to prevent the dowel from rocking in a hole 21 in which it is fitted, and tapering fins 6 extending radially beyond the cylindrical portions 3, 4, 5 on each side of the central portion 4 so as to grip the walls of holes 20, 21 in two members 22, 23 to be connected together. As shown three cylindrical portions 3, 4, 5 are provided but in a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the ends of the dowel have additional cylindrical portions (17), (18). The fins 7, as in Fig. 2, preferably have faces 9 concave towards the central cylindrical portion 4 and opposing faces 10 which are not or are less concave. As in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) fins may be provided immediately adjacent the cylindrical portions 3, 4, 5, the faces of the fins nearer the cylindrical portions lying in radial planes. The dowel may have an adhesive coating.
