Abstract

1462981 Prestressed concrete floors or floor slabs S A SANDQVIST 18 March 1974 11944/74 Heading E1W A floor or floor slab is prestressed by upwardly bowing a supporting beam 1, casting concrete over the beam 1 so as to key to the upper surface of the beam and form a layer 7 and then allowing the concrete to set and releasing the forces tending to maintain the upwardly bowed state of the beam 1. The composite slab so formed may be precast or formed in situ and may remain slightly bowed upwardly. The layer 7 is maintained in compression by the method deterring the formation of surface cracks.
