Abstract

1462956 Packaging liquids ZIRISTOR AB 8 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 20283/74 Heading B8C In a container formed by joining the longitudinal edges of a web to produce a tube, loading the tube with its intended contents, e.g. liquid, dividing the tube by spaced-cross-seals into individual packaging units, and subjecting the units to a shaping operation to produce parallelepipedic units which are separated from the tube by cutting through the cross-seals, the container is adapted to be hand gripped on opposite side walls 6 for pouring out the contents from the upper end of the container, and each of said side walls is provided with a stiff fin 5 of double thickness of web material folded against the side wall and extending fully between the upper and lower ends of the container. As described a container having parallel walls 1, side walls 6, and end faces 2 is formed from a thermoplastics coated web of packaging material by folding the web into a tube, heatsealing the overlapping edge portions of the tube in the area 4, filling the formed tube, forming cross-seals 5, shaping the tube between the cross-seals by heated jaws, and cutting the shaped tube through the cross-seals to form separate containers. Lugs 3 produced in the shaping are folded against the lower end face and the two opposite side walls 6. The overlapping area 4 is so positioned that its upper edge is coincident with the edge of the upper end face 2, its lower edge is at least 25% of the way down one of the walls 1 and its ends lie in the cross-seals 5. The area 4 reinforces the container in the area in which it is gripped for pouring, and may have a width of 0À5-15 cm preferably 1-6 cm.
