Abstract

1462895 Micro-wave oven trays TECKTON Inc 15 Oct 1974 44570/74 Heading A4D [Also in Divisions H3-H5] For preparing food in a micro-wave oven, a compartmented food tray 10, Figs. 3, 4; 70, Fig. 7 of a material transparent to micro-waves (e.g. polystyrene) is used in combination with a shielding box of a material opaque to micro-waves 28, Figs. 3, 4; 60 Fig. 7 which has apertures in registry with those compartments of the tray which will contain food intended to be heated, 42, 44, 46, 48, Figs. 3, 4 and 64, 64'; 66, 66'; 68, 68' Fig. 7. The apertures are of different sizes corresponding to the micro-wave absorbancy of the food to be heated. Where one compartment of the tray is not to be heated, 24 Fig. 4, the shielding box has no corresponding apertures and pins 55 co-operate with spring 50 at the top of wall 49 to prevent lateral ingress of micro-wave radiation. Spring 51, and engagement of pins 55 with spring 50 and wall 49 provide good electrical contact between lid and base of the box. The tray is moulded to have hollow walls 14 separating the compartments, into an asymmetrically situated one of which fits an upstanding element of the box 49 Fig. 3, 74 Fig. 7 to ensure alignment of the tray in the box. In use the tray is covered with a sheet of flexible micro-wave transparent plastics that is depressed by the lid of the box to contact the partition walls, thus preventing interchange of smells between compartments.
