Abstract
1462390 Automatic control of speed FIAT SpA 10 July 1974 [31 July 1973] 30561/74 Heading G3R A control system for the fuel supply of a gas turbine engine includes duplicated speed sensing arrangements 1, 3; 2, 4 providing a speed signal to a main control 6 where it is compared with a desired speed signal set on a potentiometer control 8 to provide an error signal which passes through a P1 circuit arrangement, whose gain can be varied by alteration of feedback resistor 9, to output point 26. The speed signal also passes to function generator 7 which includes operational amplifiers each having different non-linear characteristics and operates to modify the speed signal as the turbine accelerates on starting and provides a signal at output point 28. Thermocouples 150, 151 in the turbine provide an average temperature signal output from circuit 15 but on starting the selector 20 provides a signal corresponding to the highest of the temperatures at 150, 151 and the greatest signal passes through OR gate 22 to comparator 17 where it is compared with a reference signal derived from the discharge pressure of the compressor. The circuit 23 is a PID circuit and the feedback is such that when the temperature reaches the reference level the output drops to a lower limit. This output is compared with a reference from potentiometer 24 and the highest level signal selected and applied to the inputs of the duplicated minimum selector circuits 10, 11 together with the signals at points 26, 28. The lowest signal is used in control circuits 12 or 13 to supply a current to fuel valve 18. The speed voltage signal is derived from the frequency of the sensor output.
