Turning.-In a turret or like lathe, the rack 10 or other actuating member for the transverse slide is driven at intervals from the member, such as the rack 4, operating the longitudinal slide, through coupling means such as a sleeve 6 attached' to the rack 4, having a removable pin 14 engaging a cam groove 11, with inclined end portions 13, on a roller 7 which is coupled to the rack 10 and is thus rotated intermittingly until the pin 14 enters a short groove 12 and thus imparts a single longitudinal to-andfro movement to the cam roller 7 and slide 10, at desired intervals.
