Abstract

1460865 False twist texturing MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 14 March 1974 11540/74 Heading D1F A method for producing a synthetic multifilament textured yarn with compact and bulky portions comprises a conventional false twisting arrangement of supply roller 3, heater 4, giving a temperature between the softening and melting points of the yarn, false twister 5 and delivery rollers 6 followed by a stretching process to separate individual filaments, e.g. by roller 7 cooperating with delivery rollers 6, the stretch being restricted to below the limit of elastic deformation of the filaments, the yarn then being wound under overfeed. The yarn produced has alternate zones of S and Z twist, the zones also being alternately of compact and bulky configuration. The stretching step causes differential movement of the individual filaments in the compact parts due to slight differences of Youngs Modulus which breaks any adhesion between them and leads to an improved yarn. The stretching can be carried out in a separate winding operation Fig. 10 (not shown) or by deflecting rollers Fig. 11 (not shown), also a further heater can be situated in the stretching zone Fig. 12 (not shown). Examples are given using multifilament yarns of polyethylene terephthalate, polyester and polyamide. Specification 1431568 is referred to.
